Students honored at footbridge reopening

When the Jefferson Avenue Footbridge closed in 2016 due to safety concerns, Field Elementary second graders created the “A Penny a Day Helps the Footbridge Stay” fundraiser to save the footbridge. On Saturday, May 2, 2026 — eight years later — the newly-rebuilt footbridge was reopened, and several of those then second graders, now high school juniors, were there to celebrate it alongside their second grade teachers Babette Farrar and Kasie Ferguson. The students and teachers were recognized for their contributions.
