Field invites families and neighbors to see new classroom addition
Field Elementary School celebrated the opening of its four new classrooms with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Sept. 16. Students gathered outside the new addition at the beginning of the school day for the ribbon cutting.
“This is more than just an extension of Field,” said Superintendent Grenita Lathan. “These four new classrooms represent new opportunities for learning, friendship and growth as they will become a new home for many Pershing Elementary students over the next few years.”

In 2023, Springfield voters approved $220 million to make improvements in learning environments and safety enhancements to all SPS schools.
“Every decision we make is focused on ensuring that our students and staff have environments that are high-quality, safe and welcoming,” said Judy Brunner, Board of Education president. “I believe this addition reflects that commitment.”

Brunner also thanked contractors Crossland Construction, Paragon Architecture, Toth and Associates and Palmerton and Parrish for their contributions to designing and building the new addition.
Principal Adam Bax reflected on Field’s International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme and how the new classrooms will improve student learning.
“This new addition is more than just a building—it’s a reflection of the IB learner profile attributes we instill in our students every day,” said Bax. “This addition is a testament to our shared belief in the power of education and the limitless potential of every child who walks through our doors.”
Wilder Elementary will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new classroom on Sept. 18 at 4:30 p.m.
